Harvey A. Garrett, passed away at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK, on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the age of 93. Harvey was born March 18, 1919 in Durant, OK, the son of the late Harvey Garrett and Kathrine (Roller) Garrett. Harvey grew up in the Durant area. After high school, Harvey went to business school for a short time before joining the United States Army. Harvey served during WWII and served in Africa, Italy, and Europe. He finished his tour of service as a guard at the war crime trials. After the war, Harvey married Billie Sue Hooks in Sherman, TX on January 4, 1941. Harvey went to work for the Durant Peanut Company as a bookkeeper and later as a buyer. While working for the Peanut Company, Harvey did serve a short term in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Harvey finished his career working for Conoco in Ponca City for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Harvey enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, wintering in Texas and traveling in his motor home. He settled on Monkey Island later in life. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by his daughter Vicki Shaw and her husband Gary of Tulsa, OK; son Harvey Garrett, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Ponca City, OK; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. The graveside services will be held at the Rolston Cemetery on Monkey Island, OK on Thursday, September 6 at 2PM with Pastor Joel Rutherford, presiding.
