Haskell H. "Hack" Smith, 89 year old well known Vinita businessman, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his home. He was born May 11, 1922 in the Wayside Community, near Vinita to Lee and Molly (Powers) Smith. Hack attended school at Wayside and Cleora. He served his country during World War II, in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. Hack began working at Vogel Oil Company in 1947, in 1960 he began to buy shares in the business and became the controlling owner in 1967, he worked there until he sold the business in 2010. He was also a cattleman, a member of the Bunker Hill Baptist Church and the Dale Peace Post #40 American Legion in Vinita. Hack was ordained as a deacon of Trinity Baptist Church in 1957. He and Carolyn (Brown) were married on December 20, 1986. Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife Marie in 1985, and a son Gary in 2004. The surviving family includes: his wife Carolyn of the home; daughter Judy Fessenden and husband Ken of Tulsa; step-children, Carol Ayres of Bluejacket, Carl Breshears, Charles Breshears and wife Susan all of Vinita; grandchildren, Linda Ford, Mike Smith, Eric Fessenden, Lisa Rutledge, Amy Duncan, and James Smith; step-grandchildren, Brad Breshears, Nathan Breshears, Cory Breshears, Shanese Ayres, Tiffany Ayres, Destiny Breshears, Quinton Westbrook and Latasha Westbrook. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastors Dean Williams and Don Greenfeather officiating.
