Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Homes Grove, OK (918) 786-2261 -Hazel Marie Helton passed away in her home at Grandwood Assisted Living on July 23, 2015. Hazel was born on August 1, 1924, in Brookfield, MO, to George and Ethel (Stewart) Gash. While still a child, the family moved to St. Louis, MO, where Hazel grew up as a city girl. In 1942, she graduated Xavier Catholic High School and began many interesting jobs. She worked as a dental hygentist, hospital aide, floor manager for ST. Louis Famous-Barr (where she also worked as a clothing model). She also was a catalog store manager and manager for the Capri Night Club in Joplin, Mo. During this time she met and married WM (Bill) Helton. Bill's career as a food administrator for the Federal Bureau of Prisons took the family all over the country before his retirement in 1974. After this retirement Bill and Hazel worked as managers for the Athlete's Cafeteria at a Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. They also spent many years travelings to many places especially liking Alaska and Hawaii. They permanently retired to Grove in 1994 to enjoy family and lake-living. Bill passed away in 1997 and with the prodding of her family, Hazel joined Grand Travelers and continued her adventures around the world. Many of her favorite countries were Australia, England, Ireland, Germany, and the continent of Africa. She also traveled all over the US and Canada before she ‘retired' to Grandwood. Due to health reasons, she could no longer travel the world but enjoyed trips to local places and the casino with her friends from Grandwood. Hazel will be missed on earth by her daughters, Sandra Orf and her husband Kenny of O'Fallon, Mo, Michele Davidson and husband Chris of Grove, OK; step daughter, Joan Prosser of Glenpool, OK; stepsons, David Helton and wife Jackie of Mounds, OK, James Helton of Sapulpa, OK; sister, Dorothy Heine and husband Bill of Columbia, IL; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Meeting her in heaven are her parents; George and Ethel; husband Bill; son Richard Adams; stepson, Thomas Helton; brothers, Glenn Gash, Ralph Gash and William Gash; and sisters Louise Greenburg and Virginia Presson. Hazel will be buried next to her husband Bill at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
