Helen E. Prewitt Obituary Grove Helen Elizabeth Prewitt, 89, of Grove, passed away suddenly at Integris Grove Hospital on Tuesday, December 26, 2006. She had lived in Grove since1976 and resided at the Grove Nursing Center following a fall in September of 2005. Mrs. Prewitt was born on October 1, 1917, in Clay County, Iowa to Wallace and Sara Walter Hargrave. She was the fourth child and first daughter of the family. Mrs. Prewitt was licensed as a Registered Nurse in 1939 and worked initially at Cincinnati General Hospital. She volunteered for the Army Nurse Corps in 1941 prior to Pearl Harbor and was one of the first Americans sent into England in 1942. She served as a First Lt. Nurse Anesthetist until December 1946. She served with the 1st U.S. Army in France, Belgium, and the Rhineland and was at the Battle of the Bulge. She worked at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington D.C. following her return to the United States. She married Ernest Lensy Prewitt in Pasadena, CA on October 31, 1947. With her husband, a career Air Force officer, she traveled extensively and lived in both the United States and Europe. She and her husband retired in 1976 and relocated to the family home at Prewitt's Cove, Grove, Oklahoma. Following her husband's death in 1996, Mrs. Prewitt remained an active traveler with Grand Circle and, at age 87, participated in the group's trip to Africa. She was also a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Humane Society, the Grove Genealogical Society and the National Organization for Women. Mrs. Prewitt is survived by her daughter, Jean Michele Prewitt (Michael Fitch), Redondo Beach, CA, and her son, Col. Don Michael Prewitt (Theobelle Chung), Alexandria, VA; grandson, Christopher Prewitt, Honolulu, HI; grand-daughters Elizabeth Prewitt, Albany, GA, and Susannah Prewitt, Redondo Beach, CA; and great-grandson, Jeffery Hutcheson, Albany, GA. She is also survived by her sister, Joann Smith; step-sister, Betty Brown and step-brother, Jack Lynch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Prewitt, four brothers, (Roger, Howard, Douglas and Wallace), a sister (Barbara Marquart), and a half-brother (Harold Alexander Hargrave) and half-sister (Mary Francis Goldstein). Services will be held Friday, December 29, 2006, at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Grove, OK, 555 E. 3rd Street, Grove, OK, at 11:00 am. Reverend Phil Lawrence will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, December 28 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Interment will follow immediately at Olympus Cemetery in Grove.
