Helen Stroud

Helen Lucille Stroud, 84 year old lifelong Nowata resident passed away February 1, 2014, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. She was born November 26, 1929, in Nowata to A.V. and Oweda (Graves) Hensley. Helen attended Nowata schools and worked several jobs around Nowata. She ran the Wallace Café for several years. On October 21, 1974 she married Laverne Stroud in Coffeyville Kansas. She enjoyed children and was a teacher with the Nowata and Washington County Community Action Head Start. She later owned and operated Noah's Ark Daycare center. Helen enjoyed working with the Nowata Round-Up Club where she watched her children and grandchildren grow up. She loved caring for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She couldn't pass a garage sale and not check it out as she was always looking for a bargain. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nowata, The American Quarter Horse Association and the Nowata Round-Up Club. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Stroud is preceded in death by her parents, A.V. and Oweda Hensley; her husband; La Verne Stroud; a brother, Howard Hensley; and a nephew Chuck Cody. She is survived by daughters Ouida Brady and her spouse Lynez Ricker, of Nowata, Carrie Stacy and her husband Curtis, of Nowata; grandchildren Shannon Doshier and husband Earna, Trey Stacy, Charlie Brady and wife Ku and Krystal Brady; great grandchildren, Easten Doshier, Kyle Brady, Caitlyn Brady, Abbie Brady and Ouida Brady; a sister, Frances June Cody, of Nowata, many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. The family suggest donations to the 10-33 wheelchair van or the Nowata Round-Up Club. The family will be present at the church to visit from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins on Wednesday at First Baptist Church.
