Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, 918-256-5555. Howard Ross Hendren, 76 year old well known Chelsea resident, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the St. Francis Hospital in Vinita. He was born on May 15, 1941 in Vinita to Howard Kenneth and Oneita Ione (Burke) Hendren. Howard was a 1959 graduate of Centralia High School. HH lived life to its fullest every day! He most enjoyed his days spent horseback. He raised, broke and trained horses his entire life. He was the breeder and/or trainer for three AQHA or APHA Horse of the Year winners. His rodeo career was filled with calf roping, single steer roping, and team roping. Between the rodeo trail and truck driving years, he was a walking GPS. His previous employment included; owner of Hendren Cattle Company, and driving for Time DC Trucking, Cowan Trucking, Haggard Excavation, Thirion Trucking and most recently Ricks Trucking. He worked at the stockyards on the Sand Springs Line, Tulsa Regional Stockyards, and multiple years of ranch work. He was a life member of the United States Team Roping Championships, World Series of Team Roping and previous card holder in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. The past two years he most enjoyed his new job as Hiho to his special baby girl Kenzely Rene' Roberts. She went everywhere with him and enjoyed riding horses, working cattle and driving the trucks. He told everybody he met that he was her favorite playmate and that was evident in their smiles when they were together. He laughed and smiled for seven days in November of 2016 as he tour guided for Nanny and Kenzely through seven states. He was preceded in death by both parents, one brother Marvin "Cotton" Hendren, and a granddaughter, Lyndsey Bedner. The family includes: his children, Vickie Paxton and husband John of New Orleans, Louisiana, Kellie Lloyd of Valley Center, Kansas, Tracy Ensminger of Emporia, Kansas, Tammy Rene` Charles of Chelsea, Stephanie Deacon of Baxter Springs, Kansas, Ross Hendren and partner Andy Copen of Stillwater, Kristi Hubler and husband Billy of Chelsea; sisters, Joyce Hendren and Jackie Hendren of Bartlesville, and Janice Shamblin and husband Dick of Seattle, Washington; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many grand and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Vinita, from 6-8 PM Monday, September 18, 2017. The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Timpson Chapel Cemetery, with Greg Highsmith officiating.
