Howard Raymond Slocter, 88, of Nowata, OK. passed away at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK. on Monday, September 12, 2011. He was born on October 2, 1922 to Ernest Andrew and Lena Mae (Ketchum) Slocter in Winganon, OK. Howard spent all of his life in the Nowata area. He was the last graduating class from Winganon High School and joined the Army soon thereafter. While in the Army, he was in the 236th Engineering Battalion. He was discharged on December 7, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He married India Belle Bailey on April 20, 1947 in Nowata and they had four children together. He was a hard worker and provided for his family by being an Oil Field Superintendent. He had many hobbies he enjoyed like fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed building things, taking care of his tomatoes, and working in his garden. Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church and lifetime member of VFW Post 2745. Howard is survived by four children; Bill Slocter and wife Susan of Fairview, OK., Mike Slocter and wife Barbara of Nowata, Lisa McKinnis and husband Tom of Enid, OK., and Lori VanWinkle and husband Brad of Nowata; one sister, Joanne Dunaway of Claremore, OK; one brother, Ray Slocter "Buck" of New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Susan Miller, Michael R. Slocter, Matthew Slocter, Jared Stark, Jeffrey McKinnis, Justin Bateman, Christy Fees, and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Slocter is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Andrew and Lena Mae Slocter; his wife, India Belle Slocter and one sister, Deloris Moore. Funeral Services for Howard will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with Weldon Foster officiating. Interment will follow at the Nowata Relocated Cemetery under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service. Online condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
