Benjamin Funeral Service, Nowata, Oklahoma, (918)273-2700**After God had blessed Ida Bell Reed with a very long and healthy life, she passed away peacefully on February 12, 2018, at 106 and a half years old. Ida Bell was born July 16, 1911, the daughter of Harl Stanart and Rose (Humphries) Stanart. She was born on the Island about a mile west of old Alluwe. She attended school in Alluwe where she was a graduate in the class of 1929. This past summer was the first Alluwe Reunion that she has missed. Ida Bell married James L. "Bud" Reed on July 25, 1931, and to this union two children were born, Joan Reed Breshears and Jim L. Reed. Nowata County has been her home her entire life except for a few months in Michigan during the Depression. Ida Bell loved people and loved to work. Over the years, she had many careers. She owned several restaurants, worked at Public Service, and later retired from Oklahoma Natural Gas where she was the office manager for many years. She never met a stranger, and as she grew older, her friends would find her baking pies or cooking other food for Nowata people who were homebound. Until she was 100, she was helping with funeral dinners at Hillside Christian Church, where she was a Charter member and where she was very active in the JOY Sunday School class. She outlived most of her close friends, but while they were living, the group would frequently get together to eat and play cards. They even enjoyed doing some traveling. Ida Bell was dedicated to her family, and she and Bud worked very hard to provide their children with a good education. She was very proud to attend her son's graduation from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine and to attend her daughter's graduation from Oklahoma State University. She was a special kind of grandmother to three grandchildren, Jean Ann Breshears Fisher, Melanie Reed Hunsucker, and Brad Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents as well as two brothers, John Stanart and Homer Stanart. Ida Bell was also preceded in death by her beloved in-laws Amos and Mabel Reed, Charlie and Zela Reed, Jaunita Richardson, and Jessie and Don Blackwell. Besides the above-mentioned children and grandchildren, she is survived by grandson Keith Fisher, niece Margie Blackwell Learned and her husband Wayne; a niece Jane Bliss; nephews John Reed and Jerry Stanart; the entire Riner Family; and Janet Mayhew and Kathy Wiley, her special friends. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people in Nowata who have been so attentive to Ida Bell these many years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hillside Christian Church, 1348 West Davis, Nowata, Oklahoma, or Nowata Meals on Wheels, 238 N. Maple Nowata, Oklahoma, 74048.
