Irene (Westphal) Hicks was born on August 7, 1925 on a farm in Canistota, South Dakota to Carl and Louise (Zahn) Westphal. Irene was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was baptized on November 29, 1952. After the death of her mother in 1947, she kept house for her father, Carl Westphal until his death in 1951. During World War II, she was employed on ranches in South Dakota as a rider, and trained horses. She later worked for the Canton-Inwood Hospital in Canton South, Dakota. On November 1, 1957 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Lyndall Michael Hicks of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks were moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1961 but due to an accident when an oil field truck loaded with drill pipe struck their truck in El Dorado, Kansas, they were both injured seriously and could not work, so they decided to move up to Fairland, Oklahoma where they made their home. Mrs. Hicks did polarity and pressure points for a number of people in this area. She also was a volunteer Senior Companion in Ottawa County. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Lyndall Michael Hicks, and three brothers. Graveside committal service will be held 12:00 noon on October 20, 2010 at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
