Iva Mae Pierce, 92, of Nowata, OK died Friday, February 24, 2012 at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. Iva Mae Liston was born September 24, 1919 in Washington County. She was the daughter of Harter and Gertrude Almeda (Martin) Liston. At the tender age of only a year and a half, Iva's mother passed away. Therefore, her sisters, aunts and other family members played a tremendous part in her growing years. Iva received her early childhood education in the New Harmony Community. She was united in marriage to Kellis Marton Pierce on November 9, 1937 in Nowata, OK. Together, they enjoyed life on their farm. Iva was always known for being a hard worker. Whether it was, milking cows, growing and maintaining her beautiful garden or canning in the kitchen, she stayed busy! She never let her home decline or the grass grow under her feet! She was definitely the best cook-her homemade chicken and noodles and rolls were the best in the U.S.! Iva was active at the Delaware United Methodist Church for many years as the church pianist. She moved to Nowata later in life and was an active choir member at Hillside Christian Church. Most of all, Iva's family was her life! She will be deeply missed, but her love and memories will be carried in their hearts forever! Iva is survived by: one son, Kellis Wayne Pierce and his wife Joyce of Nowata, OK; one daughter, Janice Kay Hendrickson of Delaware, OK; two sisters: Almeda Feltenburger of Nowata, OK and Elois Adair of Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren: Tammy Beagles of Ramona, OK; Peggy Grimes of Broken Arrow, OK; Jason Pierce of Delaware, OK; Pam Pearsall of Adair, OK and Chris Tole of Tulsa, OK. She was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by: her husband, Kellis Marton Pierce; her parents, two sisters: Beluia Phillips and Opal Wolfe; two brothers, Carl and John Liston. Services to honor Iva's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Nowata's Memorial Park Cemetery.
