Ivan Dean Reeves passed away on the morning of May 13, 2007 at the Jane Phillips, Nowata Health Center after a brief illness at the age of 77. Mr. Reeves was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on April 29, 1930 to Truman and Izza Reeves and was the 12th of 13 children. Ivan grew up in Nowata County and remained in Nowata his whole life. He served active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 and was in the Reserves until 1960. During his service, he was a competitive swimmer and marksman winning several awards. After returning from military service, he met and married Nancy June Black on July 3, 1955. They have two daughters, Iva June and Tammy. Ivan worked for several oil companies, two glass companies in the Nowata area and retired from Equinox Oil Company in 1994. After retirement, he stayed busy mowing lawns, gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Nancy; by two daughters, Iva June Harrison of Nowata, Tammy Hunt of Oklahoma City; son-in-law, Cliff Harrison of Nowata; two grandchildren, Todd Harrison of Nowata and Lindsey Hunt of Oklahoma City; by two sisters, Betty Whorton of Dobbins, California and Agnes Hardie of Corvallis, Oregon. Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Izza Reeves; by three brothers, Everett, Clifford, and Ira; seven sisters, Florence Reeves, Leona Reeves, Gladys Scott, Sue Little, Dorothy Howell, Juanita Grant, and Darlene Myers.
