Luginbuel Funeral Home Vinita, 918 - 256 - 5555...........J. C. Coombes, 81 year old well-known Vinita resident, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born on January 17, 1936 in Big Cabin to Monroe and Ethel Elizabeth (Harrison) Coombes. J. C. served his country 8 years in the United States Air Force and also earned his Associates Degree. On January 19, 1957 he married the love of his life Roberta J. Dick, they had 60 wonderful years together. J. C. was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was also very active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, serving as Cub Scout, Boy Scout leader, Assistant Scout Master at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, was a Silver Beaver in Boy Scouts and also received the Good Shepherd Award. J. C. also volunteered at Craig General Hospital for many years, and was a member of the Vinita American Legion and the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jimmy Coombes, grandchildren, Brad Coombes, Shelby and Trista Culp. The family includes; his wife Roberta of the home; children, Monty Coombes of Tulsa, Mary Gail and David Welch of Vinita, Marty Coombes and wife Shawna of Cleora; sisters, Elsie Wright and husband Wayne, Thelma Perry and husband Roger all of Tulsa, Helen Rue and husband Lonnie Dale of Big Cabin; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM, at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, with Pastor Steve Holland officiating.
