Jack Dale Lowrey, 82-year-old South Coffeyville resident, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Lowrey was born January 12, 1928 in rural Lenapah to John Lowrey and Vola Sherron-Lowrey. He attended schools in Lenapah and broke horses for the Halsell Ranch during that time. He then enlisted and served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a lineman and telegraph operator. Upon return from his service, Mr. Lowrey returned to the Halsell Ranch as a ranch hand. On September 26, 1950 he married Geraleen Miller. Later, Mr. Lowrey would also work as a driver for Glenn Harvey and he served a nearly 20 year term with the Morrow Foundry before retiring from Funk's John Deere in the early 90's. Mr. Lowrey was a Christian man who took great pride in his conviction. He was a Charter Member of the First Baptist Church in Lenapah where he also served as Deacon for nearly 50 years. He taught Men's Sunday School Classes and was also a member of the Master's Builders which was a mission group that traveled the world building churches and spreading the word of God. Mr. Lowrey was a part of mission trips that took him to Haiti, Louisiana, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah through the Baptist Relief Effort. He was also instrumental in helping start the Cowboy Camp Meetings in Lenapah. Mr. Lowrey had most recently been attending the Rose Hill Community Baptist Church in Dewey where he had also served as a Deacon. Mr. Lowrey loved to hunt elk, deer, and antelope in Wyoming and Colorado. He also could be seen working cattle off of horseback at the South Coffeyville Stockyards on Fridays. Mr. Lowrey loved the ranching life, but perhaps what brought him the most enjoyment was the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Lowrey is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Howard and husband Harry "Buzzy" Howard of South Coffeyville; by two sons, Jackie D. Lowrey, Jr. and wife Shirley of South Coffeyville, and Jimmy Lowrey and wife Lisa of South Coffeyville; by two brothers, James Jewell Lowrey and wife Doris of Coffeyville and W.E. "Gene" Lowrey and wife Iona of Paducah, Kentucky; by one brother-in-law, Donnie and wife Linda Miller of Wann; by 7 grandchildren; by 15 great-grandchildren; and by a special friend, Barbara Winget. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife; by a brother, John Lowrey, Jr.; and by two sisters, Beulah Scullawl and Mary Ellen Victor.
