Jack Stimson

June 1, 1925 — May 8, 2012

Jack Terry Stimson was born on June 1, 1925 in Murphy, Oklahoma to Jess B. and Maggie Key Stimson, the sixth child of 10. As a young child, his family moved to the Ralston area in Osage County, in Oklahoma. The family share-cropped for the Mulendores. Jack often spoke of spring time in the Osage, riding on a buckboard to Fairfax, Oklahoma and watching the new calves pop their heads up out in the fields. Later his family moved to Bushyhead, Oklahoma where he attended school. He left school in the eighth grade to help on the family farm. At the age of 17, he followed his older brothers, Claude and Chester, and joined the war effort. He proudly served his Country in the U.S. Navy for three years before returning to the Bushyhead area to buy his own farm. On September 22, 1950, he married Opal Marie Melton and moved to Bartlesville. They had three children, Terry Lee, Sandra Kay and Jackie Sue. Jack worked at National Zinc when he first moved to Bartlesville and then became employed at Phillips 66 in 1951. Retiring from Phillips in 1985, he continued to work in his landscape business until he was 82. The long days of a farmer never left him as he worked at Phillips at night and cut wood, grass and did landscaping during the day. One of the kids to whom Jack gave his first job said that not only did Jack teach you to work hard, he set a good example and taught you to be kind to people. Jack also loved to fish, watch the Cardinals, and if any of his kids had a ballgame and he could be there, he was. He loved spoiling his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Papa Jack was the "Gentle Giant" to Genny, Maggie, Rachel, TJ and Brian. Then he was blessed even more with eight great-grandchildren, Audrie, Cameron, Collin, Trenton, Mackenzie, Kaydence, Erin and Carson. Jack was an example of a Christian man to everyone who knew him. He would help anyone he could and loved his family with all his heart. In 1991, he was ordained as a deacon at Oak Park Baptist Church, where he was a faithful servant for more than 39 years. When the church changed its name to West Oak Baptist, he remained there as a deacon. Jack is survived by his wife, Opal; his children, Terry and Linda Stimson, Sandra and Mike Marshall, Jackie and Garland Mensch; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Daris; sisters, Martha and Mary Lou; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Faye, Opal, Ortha, Loretta; and two brothers, Chester and Claude.
