Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK....918-786-2261.....James Alban Barnes, known to many as, "Jim" but to his closest friends, "Barney" has passed away at the Integris Grove Hospital in on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2014 in Grove, OK at the age of 80. Jim was born on February 21, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of the late Douglas Barnes and Mable (Coffman) Barnes. James grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from high school in the early 1950's. After school, James went right to work for Pacific Telephone Company until joining the United States Army. He was a Private 1st Class within the 1st Truck Platoon stationed in Germany. His most memorable moments were driving a truckload of GIs to the train to send them "on their way home." Each time he would say, "My day will come." After his honorable discharge, Jim went back to work for the Pacific Telephone Company which later became AT&T. He retired after 33 years with the company at the age of 52. He met Joan Camilla (Moore) Barnes in the mid 1980's and made her his wife in Las Vegas on May 26, 1981. In Jim's later years, he moved to Grove, OK where he lived out the remainder of his life enjoying family, close friends, watching sports, historical documentaries, woodworking, recanting old military stories and recreational lake outings. His most memorable moments were strategizing a competitive game of Chess and / or driving a truckload of GIs to the train to send them "on their way home." Each time he would say, "My day will come." He was always willing to help anyone and everyone. He put others before himself consistently, was a man of his word and lead by example; a true gentleman. He was a great husband, father, and friend. A man with no enemies. He will be greatly missed and kept close in fond memories to those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan; and one son, David James Barnes. He is survived by his sons: Michael Barnes of Grove, OK, and Michael Damian Moore of Colorado; two brothers: Michael Barnes and his wife Rosemary of California, and Steve Barnes of Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Hannah Barnes of Grove OK, Kristian Moore, Chase Moore, Sydney Moore, Sophie Moore, Ellie Moore and Amy Moore of Colorado along with a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, Grove, OK on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2PM with Rev. Geoff Buffalo, presiding.
