GROVE - James S. Carnes, age 68, died November 20, 2007 at his residence in Grove, Oklahoma. James was born March 31, 1939 to Elmer J. and Leslie (Miller) Carnes in Holly, Michigan. He graduated high school in Oakland, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan University with a degree in Law Enforcement. He married Susan G. Hill on December 30, 1989 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Carnes served as The Chief of Police in Byron, Michigan for four years, and six years in Ft. Scott, Kansas. He also previously resided in Linden, Michigan, Bixby, Oklahoma. He was a member of the National Police Chiefs Association, UAW, Moose Lodge and the Lion's Club, member of the Nazarene Church since 1950. James enjoyed watching Michigan football and fishing. Survivors include his wife Susan G. (Hill) of the home, two daughters Candy Yow and her husband Frank of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Lori Martinez of Saginaw, Michigan, one son, John Carnes and his wife Kendra also of Saginaw, Michigan, seven sisters, Ellen Morris of Linden, Michigan, Elaine Misener of Punta Gorda, Florida, Dorothy Alward of Fostoria, Michigan, Ruth Steiner, Maxine Miller and Sharon Evans all of Linden, Michigan, Rena Dake of Byron, Michigan, one brother Gerald Carnes of Marietta, Georgia, ten grandchildren and one great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, one son Scott Carnes, two brothers, Arnold Carnes and Joe Carnes and one sister Louella Shiplett. No services have been planned at this time, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma.
