James Carter

March 19, 1951 — October 20, 2008

James "Jimmy" Wilson Carter 57 of Nowata passed on to be the Lord Monday, October 20, 2008 at his residence. Services are scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2008 in the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derrick Bohn officiating. Visitation for Mr. Carter will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 am to 9 pm. James was born on March 19, 1951 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Arthur L. and Dorothy (Williamson) Carter. He grew up in Chelsea and attended Chelsea Schools until his sophomore year he transferred to Nowata High School from where he later graduated. Jimmy made Nowata his home for the past 40 years. He was an avid member of the Cornerstone Community Church. Jimmy enjoyed going fishing and target practicing but he loved his job as a county dispatcher. He would always go out of his way in order to help others; he started coordinating the 911 address to all of the locally named county roads. Jimmy was a caring, loving, devoted man that if you were lucky enough to know him he made a lasing impression on your life. He is survived by his daughter Jocelyn and her husband Shane Stroud of Nowata, one grandson Carter Stroud, one granddaughter Payton Stroud, one brother Jess Carter of Bartlesville, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and one life time friend Janet Carter. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Dorothy Carter and his brother William Paul Carter. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Faith One Youth Ministries 220 N Maple St. Nowata, Ok 74048.
