James B. Cottle, 52, resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011, in the St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa. James Barden Cottle was born July 28, 1959, in Bartlesville. He was the son of John Ernest Cottle and Sarah Alexander (Cooley) Cottle. He was raised and attended school in Bartlesville, graduating with the Bartlesville College High School Sr. Class of 1977. He furthered his education by attending the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a B.A. in Geology. James and Valera Beth "Val" Leslie were united in marriage by Val's father, a Methodist minister, on August 14, 1982 in Isabel, KS. They made their home in Bartlesville where James was employed with SESCO, Inc., as a Cathodic Protection Engineer and Coding Inspector for 22 years. James was a member of the East Cross United Methodist Church in Bartlesville where he volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed participating in various Bible studies. He always looked forward to the July Hymn Fest at the Boston Avenue Methodist Church. James and his family loved art, music and old movies. He was proud to say they had watched the top 100 movies of all time. James and Val volunteered, as ushers, at the Bartlesville Community Center. Also, important to him was his love for working in his yard and his desire to travel. He was fortunate to have a job which took him all over the country, he especially enjoyed his travels to Colorado, Oregon, Iowa and Minnesota. However, he had a greater love for his hometown, Bartlesville. James was proud to be a "Bartian". In fact, he was so loyal he did not want to spend his money anywhere else. James will be remembered as loyal, honest and trustworthy by all who knew him. He was especially looking forward to retirement, and pursuing his love for art, by working in an art museum, and for helping others through volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. For those who would like to remember James with a charitable gift, the family suggests contributions to Bartlesville Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1284, Bartlesville, OK 74005 or to East Cross United Methodist Church 820 S. Madison Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006. James was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and sister, Mary L.
