James "Kenneth" Smith, 95, a resident of Vinita passed away at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri on Sunday, March 25, 2006. He was born on February 18, 1916 to Henry and Ellen (Cauthon) Smith in Bluejacket, OK. Mr. Smith retired from Eastern State Hospital as a Maintenance man. After his retirement he enjoyed farming, yard work and working in his shop he also had a 1962 rambler he loved to tinker with and keep clean. Kenneth was a World War II Veteran in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ellen Smith along with one sister Ruth Cowardin. Survivors include his wife Wilma B. (Spunaugle) Smith of the home, two step sons and their wives, Darrel and Connie Bump of Oswego, KS, Sammy and Linda Bump of Chetopa, KS, a sister Fern Williams of Santa Maria, CA, nephews John Cowardin, Henry Cowardin, Fred Thomas Cowardin and a niece Ruth Mary Bland, his step grandchildren, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Vinita with Reverend Fred Cowardin Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, Oklahoma.
