James "Gene" Patrick, age 84, a resident of Vinita died early Tuesday morning, April 22, 2008 at his home. He was born May 26, 1923 in Vinita, OK the son of Joseph Patrick and Blanch Bush Patrick. He was raised in the Fairland area and attended school in Ogeeche where he played basketball, winning a trophy and four medals. At Age 17, he left home bound for New York to work on pipelines then later, he went to Gulf Port, Mississippi to work in the shipyards. In 1942 he joined the Army and served in Europe for the next four years. Mr. Patrick worked for McKnab Truck Lines and BF Goodrich. While employed at BF Goodrich, after eleven years he sustained an injury in his neck that resulted his retirement from Goodrich. He managed the Champlain Service station in Miami and in 1967 began to manage the Hudson Oil Station in Vinita where he continued to work until his retirement in 1993 On August 20, 1976 he and Connie Sawin were married and they continued to make their home in Vinita. In 2006 he was Baptized and became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He had a love for horses and enjoyed raising thoroughbred and quarter horses for many years and enjoyed traveling and horse racing and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Assn. and the VFW, Mr. Patrick leaves behind his wife Connie of the home, eight children, Donald L. Patrick and Tommy J Patrick both of Vinita, Michael R. Patrick of Ashland, KS, Martin G. Patrick of Bluejacket, Debbie Robbins of Pryor, Desiree Waddel of Vinita, Dennis Sawin of Ketchum and Deanna Pruitt of Vinita, one sister, Gladys Whipkey of Seneca, MO and numerous grand child and great grand children. He was preceded in death by One infant son and a daughter Shirley Graves. Funeral Services for Gene will be held Thursday April 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel with Perry Flerchinger officiating and interment to follow in the Fairland Cemetery.
