Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, OK 918-253-3222.James Finley Richie passed away on October 20, 2015 in Olathe, Kansas at the age of 80. James was born on April 7, 1935 in Mayes County Oklahoma. He was the son on Grover Hendrix "Tom" and Bobbie Lee (Dickerson) Richie. He was united in marriage to Betty Ramsey in January of 1981 in Englewood Colorado. James dedicated his life to his family and his country. He was a devoted husband and father. At the age of 17, James enlisted for a four year term with the US Navy, then James joined the Army and served two deployments in the Vietnam War. He was one of the first Special Forces green berets. James was promoted to the rank of Major and retired after serving 21 years. James was a member of the Special Forces Association Chapter 29, Military Retired Officers Association. James earned his Master's degree in History and Economics. James was a historian and patriot. He would substitute teach when he could. James was preceded in death by his parents, two brother; Ollie Beecher and H.B. Richie, two sisters; Dorothy Goins and Faye Davis and by one step daughter Lisa Kelly. James is survived by his wife Betty Richie, three children; James Thomas Patrick Richie and his wife Christine of St. Augustine, Florida, Noelle Richie Jacker of Jacksonville, Florida, Julie Richie Tanner and her husband Greg of Denver, Colorado, one brother; Clark Richie and his wife Shirley of Jay, Oklahoma, one sister Velma Icardy of Terrell, Texas. James was blessed with six grandchildren Charles Kelly, Allison Kelly, Edward Kelly, Emilee Richie, Sam Richie and Olivia Richie. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma with Pastor Todd Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors at Duffield Cemetery in Jay, Oklahoma.
