James Stine

December 27, 1930 — September 19, 2009

James C. Stine, 78, of Bartlesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2009 following a short battle with cancer. Jim was born in on December 27, 1930, in Glendale, CA, the son of Charles and Edna Stine. Following his mother's death in 1936, he lived with various relatives until he came to live with his uncle Virgil and Emma Stine in Walters, OK. He graduated from Walters High School in 1950. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army 45th Infantry division in the Korean Conflict. He later attended Southeastern State University in Durant, OK on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1954. While at Southeastern he met the love of his life, June. Jim and June were married on May 22, 1954 in Durant, OK. They both taught school in Velma, OK and Amarillo, TX. Jim then went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company in Pampa, TX and was transferred to Bartlesville in 1957. Jim became a State Farm Insurance agent in 1960 and retired in 2001 after 40 years. Jim and June shared more than 54 wonderful years together before June passed away in February, 2009. Jim is survived by his daughter Kay (Stine) Sommers, son-in-law Lee Sommers, and grandson Andy Sommers; his son, Phillip Stine, wife Charlene, and granddaughters, Christina and Michelle Stine; his dear friend, Jack Steeper; his fiancée, Nancy Jourdan; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Stine; his beloved daughter, Julie Ann Stine; and his dear friend, Jewel Steeper. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3700 Woodland Rd., Bartlesville. Jim never knew a stranger, and made friends everywhere he went. He had a zest for life. He touched the lives of so many people. We will all miss him dearly, but he will live on in our hearts forever.
