James K. (Jim) Story, 75, a resident of Jay, OK passed away at his home on Thursday, May 17, 2007 with family members by his side. Jim was born on October 18, 1932 in Darnell, LA; he grew up in Shreveport, LA. He served in the United States Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Winston Bay during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Shreveport and began a career in law enforcement with the Shreveport Police Department. In 1958 he entered Federal Law Enforcement with the United States Border Patrol. He served with the Border Patrol as Senior Patrol Inspector and as an inspector with the Immigration and Naturalization Services until retirement in October 1982. During his service with the Border Patrol he served numerous stations throughout the United States including Miami, OK. Following his career in law enforcement he operated Jim Story trucking in Houston, TX before relocating to the Grove/Jay area where he met and married his wife Bertha. He and Bertha owned and operated Pontoon boat rentals on Grand Lake, and he worked at Arkansas Valley Petroleum. Jim was active with the Elks Lodge 2715 in Grove, serving as Exalted Ruler during 1994-1995 as well as 2004-2005, a member of the Moose lodge and the VFW post 8380. Jim loved the outdoors, especially backroading with his friends, spending time on the lake, and traveling in his camper with his wife and his retired Border Patrol friends. Jim also enjoyed traveling to NASCAR events throughout the year, he was a great fan! Jim is survived by his wife Bertha Story of the home, his three sons, James Kenneth Story Jr. and his wife Debbie of Richardson, TX, Roger Leo Story and his wife Bonnie of Tyler, TX, Marvin Lee Story and his wife Judy of Houston, TX. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother Patsy S. Markey and Sister Mary Evelyn Story, D.C. of Shreveport, LA and Donald H. Story of Woodway, TX, Seven Grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Gary Youngblood and Justin Youngblood of Penrose, Col. Michele Youngblood of Grove, Melissa Youngblood of Miami, and five step grandchildren along with a host of family and friends whom he loved and they loved dearly. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grove with Father Gregg Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in the Zena Cemetery under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. The Rosary will be given at 6:00 PM at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, then visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Chapel also. Pallbearers will be: James Kenneth Story III, Nick Hull, Nathan Hall, Mel Crawford Brian Miller and Dennis Blakemore. Honorary Pallbearers are his friends of the 72nd graduating class of the U.S. Border Patrol, Dan Tauuneacie, Darrell Longan and Gary and Justin Youngblood.
