James "Tom" Thomasson, 65 year old Disney resident, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 after a 21 month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was born in Baxter Springs, KS on March 8, 1948 to James Herman Thomasson and Ellen Golden. On September 14, 1980 he was united in marriage to Marsha Clary. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a sergeant. Prior to moving to Grand Lake he worked for the City of Tulsa as an electrician. For several years he ran Tom's Electric and was the local go to guy if something needed to be 'tinkered" with. Following that he worked for the Mayes County Rural Water District #3 in Disney where since 1998 he served as manager. Tom was a very fun loving man. He loved spending time with his family and friends whenever and wherever he could. He loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, noodling, and golfing. He enjoyed playing darts and was a pool shark. He was a man of many talents and many people relied on his expertise. Tom was a very generous man with a heart of gold - especially for the elderly. He kept an eye on them. He loved having his family close. He often included people that had nowhere to go during the holidays in his family get togethers. He believed in God and knew he would go to heaven where he would reunite with his loved ones. Tom raised his grandson Ty like he was the son he never had. Taught him to hunt, fish, do mechanical work, and generally be self-sufficient. He did this for all of his kids and grandkids. Tom also passed on his love for the outdoors to all of his family. Tom lived life his way! That was the quality that caused so many people to love him and look up to him as a leader. Survivors include his loving wife Marsha Thomasson of the home, daughters: Becki Burleson and husband Greg of Wyandotte and Ashley Bishop of Disney, grandchildren: Tyler Burleson and wife Suzi, D. J. Burleson, and Ty Bishop, great grandchild: Tallie Burleson, siblings: Norma Macy, Jo Ann Amey, Sharon Frazier and husband Phil, and Steve Thomasson and wife Terri, as well as numerous other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Denny Hunnicutt, and one nephew Teddy Macy. The family will host celebration of life services at a later date.
