Benjamin Funeral Service ~ Nowata, Oklahoma ~ (918)273-2700.................................................. Janet was born April 18, 1926 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Ronald S. and Ann Burt Mason. She died on December 24, 2016 in Edmond, Oklahoma where she resided the last three years of her life. She attended a rural elementary school west of Nowata near the Cross J Ranch where she lived with her family and then completed her schooling at Nowata Public Schools graduating in 1943. Janet attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and kept many wonderful memories and friends from her time there. Upon returning to Nowata, she was employed by Philips 66 in Bartlesville. On December 24, 1946, Janet married Denzel Lee Berry. They were married 63 years until Denzel's death in 2009. They lived all those years in Nowata and raised two children. She was a wonderful homemaker and also enjoyed working for the Nowata schools as a secretary to several superintendents. Janet loved her family, her church, and her town of Nowata. She had many dear friends even some since childhood. Janet was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church where she loved to sing in the choir and was a member of the Nowata Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf with her friends. She hosted many Bridge parties and, in later years, enjoyed weekly Domino games with dear friends Martha Maddux, Bimi Hicks, Joyce Reid, and her sister, Ruthie, whom she adored. Janet loved to travel and dance with Denzel. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Ann Mason; stepmother, Monett Mason; husband, Denzel Lee Berry; sister, Ruth Ann Mason Faulkner. She is survived by her half-brothers Lankford Mason of St. Louis and Corbett Mason of Jay; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Kathy Berry of Afton; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Neil Hopkins of Edmond; six grandchildren: Rob Berry and wife, Heather, of Guthrie, OK; Alyson Berry of Oklahoma City; Denzel Blake Berry and wife, Salome, of Owasso; Mason Hopkins and wife, Christine, of Edmond; Julie Hopkins Bennett and husband, Chris, of Norman; and Greg Hopkins and wife, Laura, of Norman; thirteen great-grandchildren; Alex and Denise Berry; Avery Berry; Beau, Nate, Brooks and Joy Bennett; Annie, Sam and Will Hopkins; and Oak, Boone and Gray Hopkins. The family is thankful for the many loving caregivers at Touchmark at Coffee Creek in Edmond, Oklahoma and the caring nurses of Centennial Hospice. A memorial service honoring Janet's life will be held Thursday, December 29th, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Nowata. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Nowata.
