Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma -- 918-273-2700 Funeral services for Janet Ann Brooks will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Nowata. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. Janet Ann Brooks passed away Thursday November 3, 2016 at her home in Nowata, Oklahoma. She was born in Nowata March 9, 1934 to Robert and Helen (Minor) Simpson. Janet was the homecoming queen and graduated from Nowata High School in 1952. She continued her education graduating from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in history. She married the love of her life Kenneth Wayne Brooks. They lived in New York from 1970 to 1990 before returning to Nowata. Janet was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nowata, a member of the Nowata City Industrial Board, the Nowata County Election Board, and an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading and rescuing cats and kittens. She was a very happy friendly person and loved talking with and spending time with her friends. She loved her family and had a special place in her heart for all of them. She will be missed by all who knew her. Surviving Mrs. Brooks are her husband Kenneth Brooks; a son Michael Brooks and wife Anne of Simi Valley, California; a sister Marjean Gibson and husband A.T. of Tulsa; and two very special friends Kay Cody and Freda Durham of Nowata. Preceding Mrs. Brooks in death are her parents Robert and Helen Simpson, and two step brothers. The family suggests donations to any SPCA or animal shelter.
