Janice Elaine Lonski

Janice Elaine Lonski, 67, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma passed away Sunday afternoon, August 27, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Janice was born December 3, 1955, in Topeka, KS to Lewis J. Thompson and Ida (Fanarow) Thompson.  Janice grew up in Bartlesville and received her education there, graduating with the 1974 Class of College High School.  She attended Phillips University at Enid, OK where she received her Bachelors’ degree in music. Janice returned to Phillips in 1993 and received her Masters’ degree in music.

She began her teaching career in North Dakota, where she met Robert Jerome Lonski. One year is all she could tolerate of the cold.  She moved back to Oklahoma and Robert followed.  The couple later were married on July 6, 1985, at Goose River Lutheran Church in Hatton, North Dakota.  Janice taught concert band, marching band and chorale in Waukomis, Kremlin, Garber and Lahoma schools.  The couple moved to Bartlesville in 2002, so Janice could be near her dad.  She retired in 2009, so that she could care further for her father, who would pass in 2014.

Janice was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and its choir.  She enjoyed her “plant ministry”, selecting and caring for the church’s plants.  Janice also attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she volunteered to help when she could and she loved teaching piano to her students.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of the home; daughter, Amanda Beth Johnson of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Kenneth Thomas and his wife, Lisa of Juno Beach, FL.  Janice is preceded by her parents.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. A reception will follow in Metcalf Hall at the church.  Everyone is invited.  Arrangements are under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home and Cremation Service.  Memorials can be made in Janice’s name to St. Luke’s to be used for community projects.  To send an online condolence, visit www.honoringmemoriesbartlesville.com.
