His passing was in the presence of many family members. Jarvis suffered from a long term illness and has been under recuperative care for the last 20 years. His condition worsened the last two months. He was born in Millsap, Texas, 08/15/1928 and is the son of Almuth and Mamie Littlefield who preceeded him in death, both at young age. He has two sisters; Glenda Thomas, Georgetown, Texas and Joyce Smith, Arlington, Tx. They described Jarvis as, "the family Golden Boy." Jarvis graduated high school at Robert Lee, Texas where he was a standout athlete. He married his favorite high school cheerleader, JoAnn Bilbo Littlefield and she survives in the home after 68 years of marriage. He left school and worked in the oil fields for 4-5 years. Jarvis and JoAnn moved to Afton/Monkey Island area where they've lived since 1952. They began a small farming and dairy operation. The couple had four sons and one daughter. Jarvis began his public service with his election to the Grove School Board where he served for the next 13 years. He was able to present graduation diplomas to each of his five children. He resigned to begin work in law enforcement in 1969 as a Deputy Sheriff. In a short period he became Undersheriff. Jarvis moved to Grove Police Department and became Chief between 1972-1973. He left after he was successfully elected Delaware County Sheriff where he served a two year term. In 1975 Jarvis was appointed to a Governor's Task Force, known as the Northeast Oklahoma Crime Commission which was designated a five county responsibility to help area Sheriff's Offices reduce crime around the Grand Lake area. During his law enforcement career, in addition to Delaware County, he was commissioned as a Police Officer in Benton County Arkansas, Ottawa County, Ok. and Adair County, Ok. Jarvis continued his farming operation and in 1979 he suffered a medical issue which reduced his health for numerous years until his death. He has many friends who were part of the close farming community across Delaware County. He was an avid outdoor sportsman. He participated with family members in hunting, fishing and raising coon dogs. He loved music and played guitar as a young man, always entertaining the younger family children. Jarvis was very family oriented. He followed all five children and their school activities in the Grove School system, attending most extracurricular activities. In 1962, Jarvis and his family were named, "Farm Family of the Year," of which he was very proud. He is a long time member of the United Methodist Church, Grove. He was also a long time registered Democrat and participated in the election process. Wife JoAnn said Jarvis greatest achievement was his family. In addition to all of the school activities; Christmas Eve was always bingo night for the family as it continued to grow. Sister Glenda (Thomas) said on Easter, Jarvis hid 100's of eggs for the young kids as well as the adults in the family. He took special care to see everyone got a chance to find eggs and made it fun for all.
