Jerry Lee "Doc" Sutherlin, 71 year old Nowata resident passed from this life Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. He was born in Nowata to Theo and Opal (Parrett) Sutherlin on September 6, 1943. Doc was a 1962 graduate of Nowata High School. In 1963 Doc graduated from barber school and was a local barber for twenty years. He was a coded welder at Halliburton's for four years before he quit to be a full time rancher and oilfield worker. On December 6, 1969 he married Janette Rue Dunn in Nowata. Doc loved farming, and working with cattle. He enjoyed tinkering with machines and friends were always asking for his help fixing things. He loved being able to help them with any project they had for him. Doc enjoyed restoring cars. He was a very hard working man that loved his wife, children, grandchildren and family. He held a special place in his heart for each and every one of them. Doc will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Sutherlin is preceded in death by his parents Theo and Opal Sutherlin. Survivors include his wife Janette of the home in Nowata; children, Jerry Todd Sutherlin and wife Jerri, of Nowata, Christee Ichiyasu and husband Wayne, of Superior, Colorado, Lea Smith and husband Greg, of Kingwood, Texas; grandchildren, Tim Humphries, Heath Bowman, Mason Humphries, Taylor Humphries, Elise Humphries, Connor Smith, Addisyn Smith; great granddaughter, Ava Humphries; siblings, John Sutherlin of Dover, Arkansas, Twila Gatton and husband Bill of Talala, Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
