Jesse Merle Duffield, 84, went to meet our Lord and Savior on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 3:29 a.m. He was born on October 26, 1925 in Jay, Oklahoma to Jop Henery and Lena Pearl (Tarter) Duffield. Jesse and Ruby were high schools sweethearts in Modesto, California and were married on March 21, 1944 in Pryor, Oklahoma. Jesse was an avid bear hunter and hard worker. He worked for Gallo Winery in Modesto, California and later hired on as a salesman for Frito Lay where he won several awards including a top hat and cane presented by Dizzy Dean and was top salesman for five years. After leaving California, he returned to Oklahoma and was employed by Greer's Ranch House Sausage in Pryor, Oklahoma. Jesse was also active in his own gas/pipeline business. After retiring from Greer's, he returned to the family ranch. In 1976 and 1977, Jesse returned to pipeline as an Inspector for Bechtol Corporation on the Alaskan Pipeline, later hired by Northern Border as lead inspector over five dual river crossings. He also inspected on a Lay barge in Louisiana. Jesse later had the opportunity to work with his son while working for Arizona Pipeline Company. In 1988, Jesse again retired and returned to the family ranch. Jesse is survived by his wife Ruby Lois of the home; two daughters, Carroll Lee Haggard and Lois Dianne Lane both of Jay, Oklahoma; one son, Jesse Wayne Duffield of Eucha, Oklahoma; one sister, Mary Juanita Robertson of Topsy, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; thirteen great great grandchildren and a multitude on nieces and nephews. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vera Pearl Robertson, three brothers, Robert Lee, Jop Carrol and Tom Duffield, one granddaughter, Mechelle Dianne (Vernon) Starr and two sons-in law Adrian Haggard and Gordon Lane. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Jay, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Duffield Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
