Jo Palmer

April 28, 1933 — February 22, 2018

Jo Womack Palmer passed on to her heavenly home on February 22, 2018. Jo was born on April 28, 1933, near Purcell, OK, to Elmer and Edna (Slate) Womack. Jo is survived by her husband of 62 years Eric William Palmer and four daughters and their children: Pam Long, Brett and Kati; Cindy Sloan, John and Brooke; Kim (Ken) Butler, Kyle (Kelli) and Keri (Josh); and Chrissy (Lon) Hintze, Hudson, Emmie, and Haley. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, her brother Jim Womack of Yukon, OK, and nephew Wade (Susan) Womack of New York. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ray, sister-in-law Donna, and treasured niece Raelynn. Jo and husband Eric graduated from Midwest City High School with a very special group of lifelong friends. Jo first attended Oklahoma Baptist University. She graduated from OSU at age 50 with a degree in Secondary Education/Marketing. Jo taught in the DECA program at Perryton High School, and worked for the Salvation Army Disaster Recovery, Green Country March of Dimes, and Head Start in Bartlesville. For most of her life, Jo was an active homemaker. Her husband's Air Force career took them to Hampton, VA; Oklahoma City; Houston; and Fairfield CA, with a daughter born in each state. She shared with her children and others a love of animals, traveling and camping, playing games together, and caring for others. Jo's family of six moved to Tachikawa, Japan, while Eric piloted Air Rescue missions in Vietnam. Jo made sure that her family actively experienced the Japanese culture and again made lifelong friends both Japanese and American at Nakagami Baptist Church, including special friends Jim and Lottie Cooper and family (North Carolina). During the 1970s, Jo and family resided in Bartlesville where three of the children graduated from College High School. Jo, Eric, and daughter Chrissy moved to Mannheim, Germany, for two years and later to Texas before returning to Bartlesville in their retirement. Jo enjoyed and valued the caring members of her Sunday School class at the Eastern Heights Baptist Church. Jo received excellent medical attention from Dr. Sharron Blaylock and Dr. Sheri Reinhard of Bartlesville. The family would like to thank The Journey Home, Comforting Hands Hospice, and the nursing staff of the 5th floor of Jane Phillips Hospital for their compassionate and excellent care during Jo's short illness. A family memorial gathering will be held at Arnold Moore-Neekamp Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, with interment to follow at Memorial Park in Bartlesville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Jo to The Journey Home.
