Funeral services for JoAnn Bates are 12:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Ellie and Roy Stout officiating with interment following at Ball Cemetery in Childers, Oklahoma. Family will be receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel. JoAnn Bates, 80, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa. She was born November 2, 1936 at Childers, Oklahoma to Walter and Dessie (Spears) Martin. She graduated from Childers School and was married to Hubert Bates June 4, 1954 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. JoAnn was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking shopping and cleaning house. She also enjoyed sewing but most of all loved caring for her family. Her husband, children, grandchildren and family all had a special place in her heart and she loved them dearly. She will be missed by all who knew her. JoAnn is survived by five children, Ruth Annita Christenson and husband Dan of Oologah, Oklahoma, Debra Jo Tyner and husband Steve of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Joyce Nickles and husband Cliff of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Mary Silka and husband Les of Spiro, Oklahoma, Hubert Ray Bates and wife Linda of Chelsea, Oklahoma; a sister, Beatrice York of Derby, Kansas, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Dessie; her husband Hubert; a sister, Ruth Barnett, and three infant siblings. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service.
