Joanne "Jodi" Mae Mills, Zena resident, died Sunday morning September 26, 2010 at Integris Grove Hospital at the age of 78 years. Jodi was born on November 17, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to her parents, Charles Patrick and Hazel (Davis) Barnette. She graduated from the Lillis High school in Kansas City, Missouri and obtained her nursing degree from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing (now St. John's College) in Springfield, Illinois. Jodi and Bob have called Zena their home for the past 13 years, the 2nd longest length of residence in her life. Jodi grew up in Chicago, and Kansas City, where she met and married the love of her life Robert W. Mills on December 27, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri. They were blessed with three children, and two daughters, Mary Ellen (Marti) and Patricia (Patti), and a son, Robert, Jr. (Rob). Bob was a US Army officer and his career took the family all over the country and overseas. After 20 moves in 30 years, Bob and Jodi retired to San Antonio, TX, then to Colorado, before settling in Zena. Jodi enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, and cooking, everyone loved her food. She even taught her grandchildren how to water-ski. She loved the Chariots of Fire soundtrack as well as Pretty Woman. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James, and sister, Barbara. Jodi Leaves many loving memories with her husband, Bob; her children, Rob, Patti, and Marti and her husband Roman; grandchildren, Heather Beamier and husband Scott, Chess Ingram; and great-grandchildren, Alisha and Alyson; as well as many other loving relatives and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life will take place 11:00 AM Monday October 11, 2010 at the Zena Community Center. Services are entrusted to Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove.
