John Chopper

John Gary Chopper, 65 year old, lifetime area resident passed away Monday January 21, 2013 in Springdale, Arkansas. John was born on August 30, 1947 in Jay, Oklahoma to Johnnye S. and Helen E. (Friend) Chopper. After high school John graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and attended Oklahoma State University. John worked for the Cherokee Nation Indian Health Services. He was elected to the Cherokee Council from 1976-1979. In 1981 he started working for Franklin Electric, where he worked in quality control until he retired in 2009. John was an avid woodworker, whether hunting deer or ducks or just cutting wood, he enjoyed the outdoors. Above all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John attended the Eucha Free Holiness Church where he taught Sunday school and occasionally preached. John was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Hawkins) in May of 2006, a son, Grant Chopper, a grandchild Kristin Chopper and a great grandchild Tegan Stringfellow. John is survived by four children, Kimberlye Plumlee of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Angela Anthony and husband Tim, of Colcord, Oklahoma, John J. Chopper and wife Davinna, of Westville, Oklahoma, and Shawn Chopper and wife Mary, of Siloam, Springs, Arkansas. John is also survived by two sisters, Carol Hamby, Shirley Swinford, both of Jay, Oklahoma, thirteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren with one on the way. Funeral services for John will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Faith Mission Church in Jay, Oklahoma. interment will follow at Round Springs Cemetery. A visitation for John will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma. Notes of encouragement for the family may be left at www.honoringmmemories.com Donations may be made in John's name to Circle of Life Hospice at the Earlene Howard Hospice Home in Springdale, Arkansas. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Jay, Oklahoma.
