Memorials in John's name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church at 208 West Delaware Nowata, OK 74048. John Ed Wendt passed away February 19, 2015 at the Post Acute Specialty Hospital of Tulsa. He was born March 21, 1937 in Tulsa to Leonard and Eunice (Sheppard) Wendt. John Ed was a 1955 graduate of Nowata High School and was Drum Major of the High School Band. On June 21, 1955 he joined the United States Air Force. He served his country for four years and was discharged on January 28, 1959. On March 21, 1958 he married Zelda Lee Hazelwood in Orlando, Florida. After separation from the Air Force they moved to Nowata and he went to work for Phillips Petroleum as a computer programmer retiring Phillips in 1994. Zelda passed away, and on August 15, 1986 he married Janet Young in Nowata. Janet passed away a few years later and on February 16, 1996 he married Mary Ellen Grant in Nowata. John Ed was a past member of the American Legion and was very proud of his military service. He was a very devoted Christian and attended church every Sunday. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nowata. John Ed was an avid reader, golfer, and loved to travel. He collected coins for years and was able to pay for his children's education as well as other needs with his collection. John Ed loved his family very much. His wife, children, and grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Wendt is survived by three children, Leonard Marshall Wendt and his wife Teresa of Raleigh, N.C., John Mark Wendt of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Michael Lee Wendt and his wife Monica of St. Angelo, TX; seven grandchildren, Jesse Wendt, Chelsea Wendt, Autumn Wendt, Michael Wendt, Michelle Wendt, Marissa Finlay, Miranda Hayden, and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Eunice Wendt, wives, Zelda, Janet, and Mary Wendt.
