Johnnie Bob Metzger left this earth peacefully on December 27, 2013 at MedicalLodge of Dewey. Johnnie Bob Metzger was born on September 8, 1930 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Walter (Jelly) Clarence Metzger and Maxie (Smith) Metzger. He graduated from Mound Valley High School in Hominy, Oklahoma on May 13, 1948. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 13, 1948. On completion of training, he had assignments in California and Japan. On May 29, 1957, he married Geraldine Louise Tayrien. He continued his military service and was stationed in Canada, Mississippi, Kansas, South Dakota, Texas and the Philippines. He retired from the United States Air Force on May 1, 1969 with several medals and commendations. Upon his return from the Philippines and his retirement, he began employment with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier and moved his family to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He retired from the Postal Service on September 31, 1989. Johnnie enjoyed fishing and grilling and keeping his acreage in pristine condition. What he loved most was his home west of town on Sand Creek and his family. He was a very kind and generous man, helping family members in times of need. He will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine in 2009, his parents Walter C. and Maxie (Smith) Metzger, his brothers Derwin Barton Metzger, George Edward Metzger, Frank Oren Metzger, and his sisters Glenna Metzger and Melba Jan Agnes Tucker. Survivors include his daughters Paula Finley and husband Jim, Marian Wright and husband Jim all of Bartlesville, two sisters Patricia (Pat) Harrelson and husband Ed of Owasso, Rhea (Peggy) Cain and husband Randall (Vern) of Hominy, brother Walter Metzger and wife Alfrieda of Tulsa, special friend Berniece Mitts of Skiatook, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
