Joy Ann (Scrivner) Nowlin, 92, of Bartlesville, OK, passed away Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022.
Joy was born August 10, 1930, in Fanshawe, Oklahoma, to Louie C. Scrivner and W. Gertrude (Kirk) Scrivner. She attended Fanshawe Elementary and High School, graduating in 1948 as valedictorian.
Joy married George W. Nowlin, Jr. in Ft. Smith, AR on November 5, 1948, and the couple made their home in Bartlesville. The Nowlins left Bartlesville in 1949, and relocated to Sidney, NE, where George was employed with Sioux Ordinance Depot, a government munitions facility. While in Sidney, Joy was employed by Laura’s Gift and Floral Shop, and later became receptionist and bookkeeper for Larsen Machinery Co. In 1951, Joy became a full-time mother and homemaker. The Nowlin family returned to Bartlesville in 1953 and made their home in the community since. Joy was a charter and active member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, where she served as children’s Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, church historian for 45 years while also serving on various committees.
Survivors include three children, Cheryl Ann (Nowlin) Grizzle and husband, Carl of Tulsa, OK, Mark William Nowlin and wife, Barbara of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Angela Denise (Nowlin) Wilson and husband, Jay of Bartlesville; two grandchildren, Scott M. Grizzle and wife, Krystal of Tulsa and Andrew William Nowlin of Edmond, Oklahoma; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie Diane Grizzle and Logan M. Grizzle. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; by her beloved husband of 67 years, George W. Nowlin; by a granddaughter, Amy Diane Grizzle and by two sisters, Norma Lou (Scrivner) Burt and Renetta Sue (Scrivner) Winters.
