Judy Vice

November 3, 1943 — October 10, 2011

Judy Gail (Ray) Vice, November 3, 1943 - October 10, 2011. On November 3, 1943, Jack and Lena Ray of Prairie Grove, Arkansas welcomed a baby girl; they named her Judy Gail Ray. She never disappointed them as she attended and graduated from Stillwell High School then continued her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, majoring in Elementary Education. Judy married Ernest (Dwain) Vice, and they had one son, Vance Ray Vice. Before coming to Bristow, she taught at Bixby, Oklahoma, Overland Park, Kansas, Jay, Oklahoma and Collinsville, Oklahoma. She was the elementary counselor at Edison Elementary before becoming Principal. She held that position for 20 years until she retired. When she retired, she and Dwain moved to Grove into their new home, where Judy loved decorating the house she designed. She loved working outside and sitting on the front porch, drinking her coffee and watching all the little animals that came to visit. She was not one to stay ‘retired' for long and took a job with the State Department of Education, but when she became a grandmother, she ‘retired' again, for real this time. Becoming a grandmother was what Judy called ‘The Icing on the Cake'. She then understood why people act so silly when they became grandparents. That is where she was the last few days of her life; she had gone to Monroe, LA to visit her son, Vance and family. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Dwain, and her parents, Jack and Lena Ray. She is survived by her son Vance, wife Kerry, and three grandchildren, Savannah, Brock and Sydni. The family will receive friends at Grove's First Baptist Church Monday, October 17, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and services will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the church. The family requests memorials in Judy's memory to the Judy Vice Memorial Fund, Edison Elementary, 111 W. 9th St., Bristow, Oklahoma 74010, c/o Linda Kay Herman. Services are entrusted to Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove. Family and Friends may view the obituary online and send condolences at www.honoringmemories.com
