ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336-5225 - Dora June Forbes, 90, passed away on March 5, 2017. June was born on November 20, 1926, in Skiatook, Oklahoma to Richard Junius (June) and Nanabelle "Jewell" Blakeman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John "Henry" Forbes; her parents; a brother, Jimmy Lee Blakeman; and an infant sister. June is survived by two sons: Jerry Wayne of Tulsa; and Marvin Glenn and his wife Rose of Pawhuska. June is also survived by a brother, Larry Blakeman; three granddaughters, a great granddaughter, two great grandsons, five nieces and a nephew. June grew up in the Skiatook-Avant area and graduated from Avant High School in 1944. She married John Henry Forbes on January 29, 1944, before he left for military service in the U.S. Navy. Following Henry's discharge from the military, they made their home in Pawhuska for 26 years, then moved to Bartlesville in 1973. June began her career doing office work at a clothing factory and continued doing clerical work for several entities. In 1966 she became a clerk-typist for the U.S. Department of Energy. In January 1989 she retired as secretary of the Chemistry & Refining department of NIPER, a contracting company to the DOE. During the years their boys were growing up, June's family fished; picnicked and swam at Sunset Lake; enjoyed three-day weekends on the water in Noel, Missouri, with the McCool and Godfrey families; and attended high school basketball games. She was an active member of Oak Park United Methodist Church from the time she moved to Bartlesville until her death. She served on the church council and was on the building committee for both expansions of her church. She was a member of their Prayer Stitchers group which provides crocheted & knitted throws and pillows for those who need "a little comfort." She was well-remembered for providing delicious food for church dinners and especially for her scrumptious desserts. Most acquaintances and friends knew her as a "sweet lady." Even in the hospital after her stroke she patted all of the medical staff who came to her bedside and said, "Thank you; God bless you, dear." Services will be held on March 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Oak Park United Methodist Church in Bartlesville.
