Karen Lynn (Ragains) Duroy, 63, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday night, May 21, 2023, in her home after a long battle with colon cancer.
Karen was born on November 6, 1960, in Springfield, Missouri to Wilbur Gene Ragains and Jean Ann (Brower) Ragains. Karen grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Karen graduated with honors from Sooner High School in 1979. She went on to Oklahoma State University where she graduated with a double major in Business Administration and Marketing. On June 3, 1987, she married her first husband, Garrett Frey. They welcomed daughter Ashley Lynn November 27, 1989, and soon after had Jeremy Ray January 20, 1991.
Early in life, Karen worked from home running a DHS accredited day care. She also served as assistant director of the Wesleyan Kiddie College. Karen found her passion serving when she accepted a position within the Dewey Public Schools as a K-12 tutor for the Title VII Indian Education Program.
During her years at Dewey, Karen divorced from her husband in June of 2001. She embraced her new role as a single mother to both Ashley and Jeremy. As fate would decide, the love of her life would be introduced to her on May 16th, 2003 - twenty years ago last week. Karen and Wade were married on December 20th, 2003, in the main dining hall at Camp Wah-Sha-She. Karen lived to see both of her children graduate from Bartlesville High School, and then graduate later with their degrees from Rogers State University. Karen was so proud of her two children and even more proud when they took jobs in their fields of study.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Duroy, her brother, Jim Ragains, her sister, Cathy Pickel, her children, Ashley Cole and Jeremy Duroy, and grandchildren, Carson, Riley, and Ayden.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Jean Ragains.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Highland Park Baptist Church, 300 SE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK, 74006. Following a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery. Services and interment have been entrusted to Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral & Cremation Service. Those who wish may stop by the funeral home to sign the register book and pay respects, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., each weekday until services.
