Kathleen Howard

March 1, 1930 — April 23, 2013

Kathleen Virginia Howard passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. Kathleen was born March 1, 1930 at Nowata, Oklahoma to James Joe Hicks and Lee Ora (Albert) Hicks. She grew up and received her education in Childers, Oklahoma, graduating from Childers High School. Kathleen married Hubert C. Howard on June 11, 1950 in Texas. The couple moved to Wichita, Kansas shortly after their marriage, as Hubert worked for Boeing Aircraft there. When Mr. Howard was transferred to Tulsa, the couple moved back to Childers. Kathleen worked as a cashier for Landers Bros. Food Store and owned and operated Howard Dairy with her husband. Hubert Howard preceded his wife in death on March 22, 2009. Kathleen was a member of Delaware United Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, especially making "Bible quilts". She liked to pick pecans which ultimately led to one of her delicious pecan pies. She loved gardening and canning, which resulted in wonderful, apple butter. Kathleen is survived by a brother, Buryl Hicks and wife Barbara of Bartlesville and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Hubert C. Howard; her parents, James and Lee Ora Hicks; seven brothers, Gilbert, Irvin, Wilbur, George, James, Lewis, Meryl, and one sister Lavondau. Funeral services for Kathleen are 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Delaware First United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrel Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery.
