Kenneth Bert "KB" Sparks, 78 year old Bluejacket resident, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Eastwood Manor in Commerce, after an extended illness. He was born on May 29, 1935 in Chanute, Kansas to Carl and Lenore (Jones) Sparks. K.B. married Mildred Guinn on November 9, 1957 at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. They moved to Miami in 1963 and he went to work for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, then became a security officer for B. F. Goodrich until its closing and he went back to work for the Turnpike, retiring in 1995. K.B. was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. He was a longtime Boy Scout leader for Troop 50 at the First United Methodist Church in Miami. K. B. had the largest number of Eagle Scouts for a troop in Ottawa County and took his scouts on trips to Hawaii, Colorado, and Illinois. He was also a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed going to the Bluejacket Store to visit with his many friends. K. B. was preceded by his parents in death. The family includes; his wife Mildred of the home; a son David Sparks and wife Dixie of Vinita; grandchildren, Heather McArthur of Lawton, Lynette Lofgren of Vinita, April Lilburn of Vinita; four great-grandchildren, and numerous friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel in Vinita. The graveside service will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bluejacket Cemetery, with Rev. Gordon Hatcher officiating. Casket bearers will be; Jeff Speer, Morris Dale Bluejacket, Doug Nigh, Rudy Winfrey, Stoney Humble, Terry Chamberlain. Honorary bearers will be; Gene Waylan and Larry Guinn.
