Lahoma Caliman

July 24, 1911 — April 8, 2010

Lahoma Flotha Caliman, 98-year-old Nowata resident, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Osage Nursing Center in Nowata. Mrs. Caliman was born July 24, 1911 in Boynton, Oklahoma to Lewis J. Hutton and Salina E. Wilson-Hutton. She married Charles Caliman on November 15, 1930 in Independence, Kansas. Mrs. Caliman was a domestic homemaker for several households in Nowata for many years. She later turned her efforts to married life and raising and maintaining a household of her own. Mrs. Caliman was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed countless hours fishing and working in her flower gardens. Mrs. Caliman is survived by two sons, Emery W. Caliman and his wife Johnnie of El Paso, Texas and Kerry H. Caliman and his wife Judy of Detroit, Michigan; by one daughter, Sheryl D. Reeves and her husband Curtis of Nowata; by one sister, Lorena Sanders of Los Angeles, California; by grandchildren, Michael Reeves of Nowata, Robert Reeves of Nowata, Cornelius Coleman of Tulsa, Maurilynn and husband Leroy of Denver, Colorado, Grisel Caliman and Sonia Caliman of El Paso, Texas, Charles Caliman of Santa Monica, California, Christopher Caliman of Detroit, Michigan, Sherman Vaughn of San Antonio, Texas, Troy Vaughn of Arlington, Texas, Olivia Gaines of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Marganette Ware of Portland, Oregon, Pam Nash of Portland, Shelly Rogers of Portland, Oregon, Pierre Shade of Nowata, Oklahoma, Keria Harrington of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Charles E. Caliman and Tanya Caliman of Greenville, South Carolina, Terry Blakey of Portland, Oregon; as well as by many other great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs.Caliman was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; four children, Carol Darlene Caliman, Salina Lahoma Caliman, Nevora Roberta Vaughn, Charles E. Caliman; her parents and many brothers and sisters. A Homegoing Celebration of the life of Mrs. Lahoma Caliman will be held at 2:00p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Willow Street First Baptist Church in Nowata with the Rev. Rex Woodfork and the Rev. Ralph Beavers officiating. Interment will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery in Nowata. Services have been entrusted to the Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
