Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, Oklahoma (918) 256 - 5555 ~ Laquita Whisenant, 84 year old longtime resident of Vinita passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. Laquita was born in Ketchum, Oklahoma to her parents Floyd Barto and Thelma Louise (Kauffman) Bullard. Laquita grew up around the Grand Lake area and graduated class of 1949 from Cleora High School. After high school she moved to Miami, Oklahoma and met the love of her life Russell Lloyd Whisenant and they were married at Russell's brother's home in Choctaw, Oklahoma on March 22, 1952. Laquita and Russell enjoyed over 45 years of marriage before Russell's death in 1997. They lived in Del City, Sapulpa, Collinsville and they finally settled on their ranch in Vinita where Laquita took care of her family and the farm when Russell was out of town with his work. Laquita worked as a bookkeeper for the Jones Oil Company of Vinita for many years and was a member of the Ketchum First Baptist Church where she enjoyed quilting and helping with after school programs. Laquita was a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, counting Don's horses and cattle, and most of all she treasured her family and time spent with her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents; one brother, Bill Bullard; two sisters, Marilyn Thrash; and Jean Hall; Laquita is survived by her two sons, Jim and Don Whisenant both of Vinita; two brothers, Louis Bullard and wife Beverly of Cleora; Merlin Bullard of Wichita Kansas; two sisters, Marietta Williams and husband Joe of Broken Arrow; Margie Harlan of Ketchum; two granddaughters, Amanda Riley and husband Adam of Vinita; Ashley Whisenant of Tulsa; one great granddaughter, Tori Riley; as well as nieces, nephews, other family member and friends. The family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Ketchum First Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Busch officiating. Interment will follow at the McLaughlin Cemetery in Cleora. Memorial donations may be made to the Ketchum First Baptist Church in honor of Laquita Whisenant.
