Laura S. "Dolly" (Schmitt) Newkirk, 84, a resident of Vinita passed away at Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center. She was born on May 1, 1922 in Madison, KS. She worked as an office manager for a resort in Zolfo Springs, FL until her retirement. Her Husband James Newkirk worked there after traveling the world. They lived and worked in Germany for a period of time and were able to travel a lot from there. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Wauchula, FL, she was also a member of the Eastern Star as a worthy matron while in Germany. Dolly's parents and one sister precede her in death. Survivors include her Husband James H. Newkirk, brother and sisters in law; Cloyce and Barbara Newkirk of Miami, OK, Jerry and Mettie Newkirk of Peculiar, MO, Evelyn Hemphill of Bonner Springs, KS along with a niece Sandy and Richard Norton of Mound Valley, KS. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 7, 2006, 2:00 PM at the Bluejacket Baptist Church, with Reverend Charles Pugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Williams Timberhill Cemetery east of Welch. Friends and family may send condolences by viewing obituaries at www.honoringmemories.com
