Laura S. "Dolly" (Schmitt) Newkirk, 84, a resident of Vinita passed away at Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center. She was born on May 1, 1922 in Madison, KS. She worked as an office manager for a resort in Zolfo Springs, FL until her retirement. Her Husband James Newkirk worked there after traveling the world. They lived and worked in Germany for a period of time and were able to travel a lot from there. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Wauchula, FL, she was also a member of the Eastern Star as a worthy matron while in Germany. Dolly's parents and one sister precede her in death. Survivors include her Husband James H. Newkirk, brother and sisters in law; Cloyce and Barbara Newkirk of Miami, OK, Jerry and Mettie Newkirk of Peculiar, MO, Evelyn Hemphill of Bonner Springs, KS along with a niece Sandy and Richard Norton of Mound Valley, KS. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 7, 2006, 2:00 PM at the Bluejacket Baptist Church, with Reverend Charles Pugh officiating.
