Lavona Jean Maple, a resident of Ketchum, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2008. She was born to Edward and Lucille Johnson on January 27, 1927 in Kingman, Kansas and then settled in Gentry, Arkansas where she graduated high school. Lavona Jean and Charles P. Maple were united in marriage on July 15, 1947 in Grove, OK. They moved to Washington, DC where Charles began his IBM career, then returned to Tulsa in 1949 to make their home until they retired to Ketchum on Grand Lake. She was an active member of the Ketchum United Methodist Church, a Master Gardner with OSU supporting the Tulsa Rose Garden and an artist that saw the true beauty in everything. She loved bringing comfort to the terminally ill through Hospice and serving in many volunteer organizations. Lavona Jean is survived by her husband Charles P. Maple., two daughters, Dianna Baptiste of Fremont, CA, Beverly Reed of Wilmington, NC, a son, Gary Maple of Carlsbad, CA, a brother, Bill Johnson of Tulsa, OK, and a sister-like- cousin, Connie Finn of Fayetteville, AR, and their respective families. But her greatest joy was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to thirteen grand children and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Bud Johnson. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials in the memory of Lavona Jean Maple may be given to Ketchum United Methodist Church at 206 N. Amarillo, Ketchum, OK 74349. A "Celebration of Life" service remembering Lavona Jean Maple will be held Wednesday June 18, 2008 in the Ketchum United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Carl Hamilton and Dianna Bradford officiating with the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
