L. D. King, 82 year old former Vinita resident, currently of Glenpool, died Tuesday afternoon, at the St. John's Hospital in Sapulpa. He was born on September 25, 1930 in Verden, Oklahoma to Matthew and Nettie Francis (Abbott) King. L. D. was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War, stationed at Fort Sill. He attended Carnegie Junior College, got his BS in Education from Central State, and received his Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma. L. D. taught math and coached basketball in Vinita, in 1962 he went to work for Phillips 66 and travelled for them until he retired in the 90's. L. D. was married to Diane Waller on January 15, 1966 in Vinita. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Glenpool; he formerly was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Robert, Jack, Billie and Ben King, Nancy Hackworth and Goldie Alexander. Casket bearers will be, Jason Ratcliff, Christian Osse, Jeff King, Bryan Runyan, Ricky Wright and Braden Benton. Honorary bearers are the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Vinita. The family includes: his wife Diane (Waller) King of the home, daughters, Cathy Haff of Tulsa, Lori Ratcliff and husband Jason of Glenpool; son Jeff King of Tulsa; grandchildren, Stacey Osse and husband Christian of Tulsa, Tyler and Taylor Ratcliff of Glenpool; great-grandchildren, Colton Smith and Jackson Osse, numerous other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, with Rev. Skip McClain and Rev. Jason Yarbrough officiating.
