L.E. Chappell, Jr. was 79 years of age and was a resident of Jay, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in Grove, Oklahoma. He was the youngest child of Merl (Hamilton) Chappell and Leon Ernest Chappell, Sr. He was born on November 27, 1931 in No Man's Land, Oklahoma. He graduated from Darrouzett High School in 1950. L.E.'s early career was serving in the United States Air Force. He served during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War and eventually retired in 1972. On October 26, 1984, he married his beloved wife, Betty (Forrest) Chappell in Bentonville, Arkansas. They made their home, in recent years, in Jay, Oklahoma. L.E. loved working outdoors. He worked in appliance repair, at one time, and also loved carpentry. One thing he enjoyed was working with anything mechanical… he seemed to have a talent for that. L.E. is survived by his wife, Betty, along with his sons, Scott Chappell and wife, Donna of Vici, Oklahoma; and Leon E. Chappell, III and wife Carla of Lake Havasu, Arizona. His daughters Pennie Roy and husband Eddy of Vici, Oklahoma and Kathy Jones of Grove, Oklahoma. Step-children, Paula McKnight and husband, Jimmy of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Warren Jones of Vinita, Oklahoma and Vanessa, Terry, Wilson and Wadie J.R. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma.
