Lela Warzel

October 15, 1924 — April 27, 2017

ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336-5225 - Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Lela Elizabeth Warzel, age 92, known as "Lee" by friends and family, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Lela was born October 15, 1924 in Monroe Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Irene Stadelman. Following a family gravesite service, memorial services for Mrs. Warzel will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6th, in the sanctuary of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dale Scott will be presiding over the service. Lela will lie in state at the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Residence where friends may call or visit on Friday, May 5th. The Warzel Family will receive friends Friday evening between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Growing up on a family farm in Monroe, Lela learned the early lessons of hard work and outdoor activities, but still found time to enjoy roller skating with friends. She graduated from Monroe High School in June 1942, followed by nursing studies at Harper School of Nursing in Ann Arbor, graduating in June 1946. Lela began her nursing career at Harper Hospital in Detroit. She met her future husband, Lawrence (Larry) Warzel, while sailing on the Great Lakes during a "blind" date, and were married in July 1950. Lee and Larry moved to Ann Arbor so Larry could attend the University of Michigan while Lee continued working as a nurse. Lee and family moved to Bartlesville in 1956 where she continued working as a nurse at Jane Phillips Hospital. Following a move to the New York City area in 1966, Lela resumed her nursing career at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. A memorable highlight was the family's move to Brussels, Belgium in 1975, which gave Lee the opportunity to visit many countries, historic sites and museums with her family and friends. Lee and family returned to Bartlesville in 1977, where she again worked as a nurse at Jane Phillips Hospital. Lee retired in 1990 after nearly 35 years in the nursing profession. Both she and Larry enjoyed many vacations and sight-seeing trips with family and friends throughout the years. Lela was an active member of the Good Shepard Presbyterian Church in Bartlesville, along with many other organizations, including American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Elder Care and the Bartlesville Community Center. Those who knew Lee well will remember her avid enjoyment in playing bridge with her friends. When asked how the bridge games "went", she would often lament "she just couldn't get any cards . . . but that's life." Surviving Mrs. Warzel are her three sons, Paul Warzel (Karen) of St. Louis, Missouri, Mark Warzel of Pinole, California, and Jon Warzel (Deanna) of Edmond, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Michael Warzel, Timothy Warzel (Nikki), and Peter Warzel, all of St. Louis; a granddaughter, Liana Warzel of Edmond; a great grandson, Atticus Warzel, and great granddaughter, Paisley Warzel, of St. Louis, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Morgan and Floy Warzel of Bartlesville. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, an infant daughter, and three brothers. Rest in peace Mom! Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, Bartlesville. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.honoringmemories.com.
