Leslie "Les" Mitchell Hood, Jr. , age 54 of Vinita, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 surrounded by his family. Les was born in Randolph, Vermont on October 17, 1957 to Leslie Hood, Sr. and Zelma (Rowell) Hood. He graduated high school from Coxsackie High School in New York. After graduation he joined the United States Navy serving until 1978. After the service he worked for the rail road in New York. He later moved to Georgia, then Pryor in 1979, and Vinita in the mid-90s. On June 1, 2002 he was united in marriage to Dawn Altman. Les enjoyed spending time with his family especially his son. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports particularly NASCAR. Survivors include his wife Dawn Hood of Afton, daughter Erin Nicole Hood of Enid, OK, son Stephen Altman of Afton, mother Zelma Tompkins of Vinita, brother Jeffrey Edward Carver of Vinita, sisters Lori Rivenburgh of Delanson, NY, Robyn Jean Gillum of Claremore, and Candee Jo Cameron of Vinita, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Leslie Hood Sr., and grandmother Eleanor Rowell. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 4110 S 100th East Ave, Tulsa, OK 74146. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Geoff Buffalo officiating. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
